Newtek announces the 8.5 version for siggraph 2005 .
hardware opengl shader, part to surfaces, dynamics improvements & some new keyboard shortcuts options.
oh, and it’ll be free.

Free SSS (like) Shader plugin

“ChanLum is a shader which takes a cheap shot at sub-surface scattering (SSS). It does this not by actually calculating the scattering itself, but by blurring and offsetting the lighting and (self)shadowing the object receives. With proper use, this produces results which look uncannily like the more ‘professional’ sub-surface scattering algorithms.”

As you may or may not be aware AMD has filed suit against Intel. One of AMD’s claims in the antitrust case is that their compiler creates code that is biased towards Intel processors.
All this got me thinking about how Newtek has made a big thing in the past of using the Intel compiler [...]
